We start in the Roanoke Valley, where crews have been out trying to clear roads since the first flakes fell.

A few inches here and there hasn't stopped traffic on Interstate 81 or other well traveled roads, but it's a different story on many side streets. Some folks are doing what they can to keep their areas clean, but on the whole, it could take some time before the countless residential roads see any sign of plow or salt.

In central Virginia, road conditions are improving but there are still some slick spots motorists should watch out for.

About two to three inches of snow fell overnight and this morning, leaving many of the streets in downtown Lynchburg slushy and slick.
Police say they've handled numerous wrecks over the last twelve hours, but none of them involved serious injuries.

It's slower going in the counties, where some secondary roads are still covered.
State police also have been busy with dozens of accidents this morning.

Snow is still falling across most of the region right now.
V-DOT says road conditions are slowly improving.
Crews are still trying to clear the major roads.
Officials say side streets are still snow covered, and they urge motorist to use caution.
There were a few fender benders this morning around the New River Valley, but police are reporting no major accidents blocking the roadways.

Iraqi officials say it was apparently a car bomb that went off today near a Shiite mosque.
A large number of people were praying outside the mosque when the bomb went off.

In California, a massive mountain lion went on the attack at a park-- killing one man and seriously injuring a woman as she was riding her bike.
Authorities eventually shot and killed the animal.

It's official. The nation's second largest radio company is coming to the New River Valley.

Atlanta based Cumulus Media Incorporated is buying the seven New River Valley Partners stations.
The 7-million dollar deal includes popular stations like WFNR, "The Bear" and Bubba Classic Country.
Cumulus will take over operations next week, but company officials say they aren't planning any immediate changes to station formats or personnel.
Cumulus won't officially own the stations until after a 90 -day comment period held by the FCC.

Some mixed news on the job market.
The Labor Department says the nation's unemployment rate last month dipped to its lowest level in 14 months, five- point- seven percent.
But the report also raises concerns about job creation.
In a separate survey, the government says payrolls grew by only a thousand jobs last month.
Analysts had been looking for about 150- thousand jobs.
