Additional tests will take two more days. The shells were concealed in road construction near the Iranian border. The gas can kill if it enters the lungs, but is mainly used to weaken infantry by causing painful blisters. A U-S general says the shells were likely left over from the Iraq-Iran war in the early 80's.

Mesaba Airlines has reached a tentative contract agreement with its pilots heading off a strike that could have driven the regional carrier out of business.

The agreement came early today. More than 70 scheduled flights Sunday had already been canceled but Mesaba says hundreds of other fights should now take off as planned. Talks continued past a Friday night strike deadline. Terms of the contract are not being released until the pilots can officially vote on the agreement. That could come as early as this week. Mesaba operates as a Northwest Airlink, and serves about 30 states including Virginia.

The number of visitors to the Blue Ridge Parkway dropped dramatically this past year.

Parkway officials say they recorded about six-point-six million visits on Virginia's stretch of the road in 2003. That is down 20 percent from the year before. They add that a year of abnormally wet weather precipitated the decline, as 2003 was one of the wettest years on record. North Carolina saw a similar decline in visits to its section of the road.

((Aross the country, long-distance truckers have new regulations to follow regarding how long they can drive without taking a break. A viewer from Galax (Lisa Tolbert) wrote to say that truckers have a hard time finding places to pull over in Virginia. "No one has taken into consideration about the limited and I do mean limited parking for 18 wheelers The worst state is Virginia cause of the 2 hour limit in rest areas for 18 wheelers but for 4 wheelers there is no limit. The cars you see in the rest area are out vacationing, staying in motel rooms. You have a minimum of 50 parking spaces for cars as to where you only got 10 for trucks. Where can you park (without getting a ticket) to sleep?"
A story we did on the ownership change related to the proposed methadone clinic in Roanoke referred to "the black community", as did part of our interview with a leading clinic opponent, Jeff Artis.
A viewer from Lexington (Ken Falk) objects to that characterization.
"In my opinion, it is racist to refer to a group or area as "black", and perhaps it's illegal (although I notice that most TV newscasts make a point of referring to "black" vs "white"). The TV media would do well to set the right example. It is your responsibility to your public."

Vladi is a career .323 hitter averaging 37 homers a season over the past six years. The deal is said to be worth about 70 million dollars for the four time all-star outfielder.

The magic finally ran out on Brett Favre and the Packers today in the city of brotherly love. The Eagles took out the Pack in overtime to advance to the NFC title game for the third straight year.

Favre came out with guns blazin in this one though. Two first half TD passes staked Green Bay to a 14-7 halftime lead over the Eagles.

It was 17-14 Packers until David Akers booted this 37 yard field goal to force the OT.
In the extra session, on Green Bay's first play from scrimmage Favre heaves it up, but no one was home as Brian Dawkins made the pick and put Philly in business.
