The man's vehicle apparently broke down on Route 460 at about 7:45 tonight and he walked to find help. We understand the victim had even made contact with his family.

When 43 year old Marvin Connor of Roanoke County crossed the highway to get back to his vehicle, that's when the accident happened.
Police say he was not only hit by a car, but also a tractor trailer in the Eastbound lanes of 460.

The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen has agreed not to call for a strike against Norfolk Southern until the railroad and union go back before a federal judge later this month.
Company and union officials spent more than two hours in a Harrisonburg federal courtroom today, discussing the closing of the Roanoke Signal Shop and a possible strike in response, but no ruling was made.

Now a new study backs up the claim that light cigarettes are no better than regular ones. A study by M-I-T researchers and the American Cancer Society says low tar cigarettes and normal cigarettes pose the same health risk.
The groups compared lung cancer deaths among thousands of smokers over a six year period and found no difference in the death rate among those who smoked ligh or ultra light cigarettes.
Several countries have banned the use of advertising such as "mild," "light," or "low tar" on cigarette packaging.

The temperature is being blamed for at least seven deaths, including an 89 year old woman who froze to death inside her Philadelphia home.
The coldest air temperature measured: minus 45 degrees on Mt Washington which is colder than the surface of Mars.

Lee Suggs was back in Roanoke earlier this week.
After starting his rookie year with a banged up shoulder- he finished the season on top of the Browns' depth chart - with a 186 yard, 2 touchdown effort in the team's season finale.
He plans to start on top next year.

Jake Mahaffy's black and white movie "WAR" had it's first screening

at the Sundance festival in Utah this morning.
It was the first time he'd seen the movie on the big screen.

"WAR" is an 84-minute long film about the struggles of those affected by the demise of America's small farms.
Mahaffy was unsure whether he'd be able to attend Sundance because of the costs of preparing the movie for screening but he managed to raise the necessary 60-thousand dollars.
"WAR" will be screened six times in Utah.
Next week Mahaffy, who teaches film at Hollins Unviersity, will head to the Rotterdam Film Festival.
