First Night in Roanoke is where thousands of Southwest Virginians used to ring in the New Year, but Festival in the Park hasn't scheduled the event for the past two years. Now former Festival director Wendi Schultz is hoping to revive First Night and transfer it to Roanoke County.

Schultz hopes to take some of the traditional elements of a first night and add on. One of her ideas is an adult New Year's Ball - one she'd like to hold at the Vinton War Memorial.
