A Campbell County Sheriff's Lieutenant collapsed and died over the weekend while referring a college basketball game in Winchester.
Efforts were made to revive 43- year- old Tony Herndon.
He suffered an apparent heart attack during the second half of Saturday's game between Shenandoah University and North Carolina Wesleyan.

A three-year old Roanoke boy died yesterday in an apartment fire.

It happened just before eleven in the Tinker Creek Apartments on Tinker Drive. Crews found smoke and flames pouring out of the front of the apartment. Chief Bobbie Slayton says a woman and her three children were inside the building when it caught fire.

Another person was injured after jumping from a window while trying to save the child. The toddler's mother, Kiana (key-anna) Poindexter and neighbors in the Tinker Creek community say broken windows and faulty smoke detectors contributed to the child's death.

Amherst County officials are investigating a shooting that killed a 23 year old man from New York. His name has not yet been released, but his body found Saturday, shot several times in the torso. Residents told authorities they heard something that sounded like gunshots in the area on Friday night. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Amherst County Sheriff's Office.

Roanoke's newest museum is up to speed when it comes to visitors.

The O. Winston Link museum has been open for a week and employees say the response has been overwhelming. 150 people have visited the museum on average each day since its opening. So far most visitors have been local, but the number of out- of- town visitors is expected to grow. Staff say the museum offers something for everyone.
