Tonight, authorities are trying to figure out how it started.
The blaze began overnight in the back of the "Home away from Home" assisted living center, but it was tough for firefighters to work.
There was no fire hydrant and firefighters had to create a makeshift pool to provide water.
Fire officials got to the scene quickly and went into the building, but it was too late for some. Three of the elderly residents had died.
Officials say they don't know how the fire started and it could be weeks before they figure it out.

The last figures show the Lynchburg-area facility had about a thousand year-round employees.
J. Crew would not say how many employees were being let go today, but one caller to our office said the number was a significant percentage.
The company spokesman says customers are increasingly buying J. Crew products through its retail stores and not by catalog or over the Internet.
The layoffs, he says, are part of an overall restructuring that has been taking place at the New York-based company since Millard Drexler took over as its C-E-O last year.

Surgeons must then cover the hole that's left- that'll amount to almost 40 percent of the woman's body.
The 46 year old woman's normal weight without the tumor is just under 98 pounds. She suffers from a rare genetic disease Von Reckling-hausen's disease.
