Forecasters were originally calling for a 1/4 of inch of ice last night, but that never materialized.
That was a relief to crews that have been working day and night to clear the roads.
What is left now has turned to ice and V-Dot says what it needs is a rise in temperatures.

The owner of an Augusta County pond has given way to state officials who fear the dam is in danger of collapsing.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation ordered the pond behind this dam near Steeles Tavern be drained immediately.
The 50-year old dam is eroded at the embankment and if it fails, it could flood several homes down below.
Late yesterday, the owner said he plans to take a side out of the dam and let the water run out.
He says he doesn't know how much the operation will cost.

A new discipline report on school violence has been released by Roanoke City Schools.
Superintendent Wayne Harris believes the information proves city schools are safe, but one critic of the administration is questioning the accuracy of the new numbers.

During a nine- week period that ended in mid-January, the school system recorded more than 900 disciplinary incidents. Harris says less than ten percent involved any physical contact between students.

Harris says additional security measures and intervention programs are moving forward, but he says officials HAVE identified a problem with recent school safety audits.
Though all city schools conducted the audits and developed crisis plans, some did not follow all of the state guidelines. Harris says the school system has taken steps to insure full compliance in the future.

Icy conditions are to blame for an accident on Northbound Interstate 81, six miles north of Natural Bridge. State police say a car went off the road and hit the guardrail. Expect delays if you're heading in that direction. Another accident has blocked a portion of eastbound Route 460 near Waterlick Road in Campbell County. V-Dot says a tractor trailer has overturned in the median.
Motorists should avoid that area if possible.

Nora Kizer Bell fought a rare form of bone cancer for years but couldn't compete with the complications of bacterial pnuemonia.

After her death Saturday, students took up crayons to tell Bell's family how much color she'd brought into their lives. They also took a couple hours for quiet time during which they had access to counselors. A pizza and movie marathon was scheduled last night.
