The crash ruptured one fuel tank and more than two thousand gallons of gasoline spilled into a nearby creek.

Roanoke City Police have one man in custody after a shooting in Old Southwest last night.

23 year old Abdishakur (ab-DIH-shuh-koor) Hassan was arrested shortly after the shooting. He faces malicious wounding and firearms charges.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 o'clock in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue. Police say Hassan shot 41 year old Frederick Mumford in the face. Mumford is listed in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Neighbors say the two got into an argument before prior to the shooting.

It started around two this morning when a Sheriff's Deputy responded to a noise complaint at the Birchwood Apartments.
According to reports, an officer saw a rifle being fired through an apartment window, and when he went to contact the people inside -no one answered. 20-year-old William C. Reece, his wife 18-year-old Jessica S. Reece and 22-year-old Blake Randell Frasher were all arrested. A large caliber rifle and shell casings were recovered from the scene. The men are still behind bars on assorted gun possession charges.

Schoolfield Lunch on West Main Street reopened its doors this week. A kitchen fire had closed the restaurant for more than two months. Restaurant owner Bill Kirios (Ky-russ-) says the holidays slowed progress, but he's happy... along with his longtime customers... to be back in business.

The restaurant has made a few changes, including a new stove, curtains and a new paint job. But, workers say customers can still expect the same friendly service they've been getting since the restaurant first opened in 1927.
