The Senate Transportation Committee approved tougher seatbelt legislation today.
But the bill still has a long road ahead.

The panel voted 11-to-four to make failure to wear a seat belt a primary offense.
That means an officer can stop and ticket you for not buckling up.
Under current law, police can only ticket you if you are pulled over for another traffic offense.
The head of Virginia State Police says many of the 456 people killed last year on the state's highways would have survived if they had buckled up.

Student athletes in Henry County may soon be wearing jerseys that look more like something out of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.

This fall, the school system plans to consolidate four high schools into two.
Today, the school board decided to keep the school colors of Bassett and Magna Vista but also bring the colors over from Laurel Park and Fieldale Collinsville.

The school system will implement the change as new jerseys are needed to keep costs down.

A family from Taiwan is headed home after finding out that the United States has the best and worst to offer.

Yu Chuan Lu was shot in the head and hip during a robbery while he was making a food delivery in Danville in October.

Since then he has been hospitalized at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, leaving his wife Lily and two small children with no place to live. Once word of his condition spread, donations from across the country started pouring in. Eventually, Carilion donated a cross-country flight in an air-ambulance, and a few donors bought 19 seats on a trans-Pacific flight to accommodate his stretcher and his family. The couple left Roanoke this afternoon, and after a stopover in San Francisco will land in Taiwan tomorrow afternoon.

A stunt on the Late Show with David Letterman went terribly wrong tonight- A professional snowboarder is hospitalized in serious condition.

The snowboarder was hurt when she slid off the landing platform and fell to the pavement below.
Tara Dakides was attempting to do a 360 degree spin, when she fell off the ramp.
The Executive producer of the Late Show tonight released a statement saying "We hope Tara makes a complete recovery and that she'll be back on the Late Show soon."
Dakides was rushed to Bellvue Hospital and is in serious, but stable condition tonight.
