Federal prosecutors filed a motion today to withdraw the charges against Rice.

But his defense team says forensic evidence proves their client's innocence.

This all began on Memorial Day 1996 when Julianne Williams and Laura Winans (Why-nans) were tortured and killed at a remote campsite.
Prosecutors have said the 36 year old

Rice hates homosexuals and tracked the pair down because they were lovers.
Hair samples found at the crime scene showed they did NOT come from Rice or either of the two victims, therefore suggesting Rice wasn't the killer.
A government expert came to the same conclusion after analysis of DNA found on straps used to bind the women.

U-S Attorney John Brownlee sought the dismissal of the charges without prejudice, meaning he could charge Rice again in the future.
However, an attorney for Rice said he was unaware of any new evidence that could make new charges likely.
So who killed the two women? No one know for sure just yet but Rice's attorneys have implicated known serial killer Richard Evonitz. (Evonne-its)

A Lynchburg prosecutor is disappointed that a man convicted in a shopping mall shooting didn't get more prison time.

22-year-old Carlos Perry was found guilty of unlawful wounding and firearms charges for an incident outside River Ridge Mall in October of 2002.
Perry shot 20-year-old Terry Lee Jackson once in the stomach during an argument over a girl.
Jackson claims he doesn't remember the shooting.
Today, a judge sentenced Perry to a total of three years in prison.
He could have received up to ten years.

The two tax plans being considered by the general assembly got an unlikely boost today.
U-S Senator John Warner said he supports efforts to increase the state's taxes.
He says the extra revenue is needed to boost education, transportation, health care and other services.
The senator did not specifically endorse one of the state's two
competing tax plans. Democratic Governor Mark Warner and Republican State Senator John Chichester (CHIH'-chess-ter) of Stafford both have advanced proposals.
The House Finance Committee already has rejected the governor's plan.

A team of surgeons in the Dominican Republic operated on a 2 month old girl born with a partially formed second head.
18 surgeons worked for 11 hours removing the second head which has a partially formed brain, ears, eyes and lips.
The unformed head has only reflex movements like blinking, and its mouth moves while the other eats.
Doctors say the other head would prevent the girl's brain from developing if left unchecked.
This is a rare condition known as twin parasite.
There has been only one other case of a child surviving birth with the condition-- a baby born in the 18th century lived to 4 years old.

You could call it a cash cow at a German bank today.

This cow wandered into the bank from a wedding where she was the guest of honor.
Security cameras caught Paula, as the cow is called, walking into the bank, turning around, and leaving.
She hoofed it to a nearby parking lot where she was caught.
When farmers in the region marry, the new bride traditionally milks a cow at the wedding to prove her skills on the farm.
Paula did not leave a deposit at the bank.

A snowboarder injured during a stunt for the Late show last night is out of the hospital tonight.

Tara Dakides (Da-key-diss) is called the terrorizer.. Her accident certainly brought fear to many when she went off a ramp and flew 25 feet in the air before landing on the pavement.
The show stopped taping.. Letterman ran outside and stood by as emergency workers cared for Dakides-
Tonight Dakides is out of the hospital.
The 28 year old professional snowboarder will appear on Letterman's show again on Monday, but this time only to talk.
