The Virginia Senate has given preliminary approval to a tax plan that raises over three billion dollars in additional revenue.
But the measure did not advance without a fight.

50- year- old Gerald David Thomas was arrested this morning as he left a room at the Ramada Inn on Franklin Road.

Roanoke Police received a tip from Tennessee authorities that Thomas might be in the area, and last night they found the car investigators believed he was driving.

Police wanted to question Thomas about the death of 43- year- old Adwinna Pamela Hughes, a Kingsport woman who was found dead earlier this week.

A Floyd County man was killed this morning in a head on collission in Montgomery County. Police say 66-year old, Bernard F. Feldman was traveling north on Route 615 when he crossed the center line and hit the truck driven by 68- year old William E. Mills of Pilot. Feldman was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene. Mills and a passenger in the other vehicle were both taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital but their injuries are not life threatening.
