What you may not realize is that McDonalds and many restaurants have been Supersizing for years -- long before the fast food chain coined the term.
According to a study in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, when McDonald's first came out with its fries the only size available was 2.4 ounces. Nearly 50 years later that's consider a small size, and the supersize is nearly three times as large.
The hamburger that started out at 1.6 ounces, is now the smallest one on the menu.
It pales in comparision to the double quarter pounder which has 8 ounces of meat.
And check out the size of soda. In 1955, it was seven ounces, that's even smaller than a child's size now.
