A cold front swept through the region, bringing locally heavy rains, and in some places, measured wind gusts reaching more than 50 miles an hour. In many areas, large trees could not stand up to the force, and a number of roads were blocked. Some houses suffered damage, or had close calls. 17-thousand customers in Virginia are without power now with many scattered outages reported, but most of them appear to be small and localized. Fieldale is hit hardest with nearly 10 thousand customers without power. A-E-P officials say it could be Tuesday before power is restored to all customers.
