((Horse racing may be called the sport of kings, but right now, in Britain, racing's reputation is in tatters.

(SOT John McCririck - Television racing tipster)

THE ATMOSPHERE NOW IS POISONOUS IN RACING. EVERYONE LOOKS FOR THE WORST AND THEY EXPECT THE WORST.
This past week, unsuspecting British betters lost thousands of dollars and others made small fortunes, on races that some critics claim were fixed.
Take Monday's 2.40 at Fontwell. Jockey Sean Fox, in yellow on the right, was challenging for the lead as he cleared the ninth fence. When he appears to JUMP off his horse - he says he fell...
What's even more curious -- his horse was odds-on favorite, but just before the race the odds dropped dramatically at bookmakers and on-line betting exchanges. Fox was suspended by the Jockey Club.
The day before, it was champion jockey Kieran Fallon who shocked the British racing fraternity.
Half way through a race at Lingfield, his horse Ballinger Ridge, a 15 to 8 favorite , was ten lengths ahead. (nat snd announcer)
Then in the final furlong, Fallon eased up on his mount and a horse named Rye won by a nose.
The intersting thing here is that newspaper undercover reporters said Fallon told them minutes before the race that his horse would lose and Rye would win. The Jockey Club is looking into this, too.
And if that were not enough, the Club has just charged a jockey and three other people with a betting scam which involved running a lame horse
