There's a new battle being waged over the civil war.
At issue is whether Virginia localities should declare April as Confederate History and Heritage Month. [***NEWS 7 @ 11 IN MONITOR***]

It was debated tonight in Pittsylvania County and Justin McLeod joins us now with more. Justin what did county leaders decide?
Jean, Supervisors decided to table the issue so it can come up with a compromise.

That decision came after a fierce debate.
On one side you have the Sons of Confederate Veterans who say this is about recognizing Virginia's history.
On the other, you have African Americans who say this is insensitive and even hateful.

Nearly a hundred people came out tonight to debate the issue at the board of supervisors meeting.

A bobcat is now being tested for rabies after it attacks a woman inside her Narrows home. Police say the woman was in her basement this afternoon when the animal jumped on her back and bit her. She was able to get away and call police. Officers used a shotgun to kill it. Officials believe the bobcat may have gotten in through an opening used by the family's pet cats.

Five months after a Roanoke teacher committed suicide, relatives want to know how the school system has responded.
Today, school officials outlined eleven steps they say will improve procedures when a teacher faces allegations.

Real estate taxes won't be changing but Blacksburg residents can expect to see several other things increase.

Town leaders are proposing a two percent increase in the lodging tax for area hotels.

NC State's Herb Sendek has been named the top coach in the league by the ACC Sports Media Association. Sendek led the Wolfpack to a solid second place finish in the league and easily outdistanced Ga. Tech Paul Hewitt for the award. Tomorrow - his star player Julius Hodge may end up being the player of the year.

((Gary Williams took Maryland to the ACC tournament title and is considered one of the most intense coaches in the country, yet Majerus and Pitino's problems changed him. ((:)) Williams has a national championship and an ACC crown. Pete Gillen has neither and his return to Charlottesville is in question. Jokes seem to mask the stress. The Roanoke men's lacrosse team, ranked 11th in the nation, improved to 4 and 1 on the season today with a win over Dickinson College.

Dan Reed then finds Jeff Pattison who cranks the shot past the Dickinson goalie.
Maroons goalie Matt Madalon shut the door in the fourth quarter with several huge saves, Roanoke wins 10-7.

Two and a half year old Jack Pruitt has a playset rivaling many parks and schools. The 21 foot tall, 7-thousand dollar jungle gym was built by his grandfather.

Neighbors however do not agree. 17 of 22 neighbors signed a petition to remove the jungle gym, and the city of Manchester Missouri agreed. It ruled the playset violates city codes which prohibit accesory structures taller than a house. The Pruitt's were ordered to remove seven feet from the top to make it level with their home. Now the family is selling the house and moving out of Manchester.
