The Roanoke City School Board calls a special meeting for next week, fueling speculation that superintendent Wayne Harris may be on the way out.

but Joe Dashiell reports the announcement apparently involves the re- negotiation of Harris' contract.

the stated purpose to discuss a personnel matter relative to the performance of a specific employee.

There was no mention of their Monday plans, as school board members gathered with Harris for a work session today.
Members of the board contacted later by phone would not reveal any additional details.
Harris also declined to comment.
But sources tell us the meeting will deal with the renegotiation of the contract that was signed last year... a contract that would keep Harris at the helm of the school system through 2006.
We're told that Harris now plans to step down at the end of the current school year.

Authorities have several suspects in last night's bombing in Henry County.

Police responded to a parking lot at this auto repair shop in Fieldale just before five.
One bomb went off in the front seat of a Volkswagon.
State Police then detonated a second bomb.
Sheriff's Deputies say the explosion was small and was the result of a homemade style bomb.
Investigators say the suspects are several teenagers and they face various felony charges.

Radford investigators say they've solved last month's bank robbery.
FBI agents in Tennessee arrested 19 year old Matthew Brian Aslinger late Wednesday.
A Radford grand jury has already indicted Aslinger on robbery and use of a firearm charges.

Police say he walked into the Wachovia bank on main street and handed the teller a note demanding money and saying he had a gun.
