A small bomb exploded inside a car near Fieldale in Henry County.

It happened just before five o'clock in this parking lot on Appalachian Drive near the Old Pillowtex Plant.
Authorities arrived to find a bomb had detonated inside of a maroon Volks Wagon.

Unionized workers at Danville's Goodyear plant will not go on strike. Dana Dixon with United Steelworkers Local 831 says a tentative contract agreement was reached just after 7 o-clock last night. Details of the new contract will be available later today.

New policies to discipline students who make false allegations against Roanoke City teachers were laid out by a committee at a town hall meeting yesterday afternoon.

This is all in response to the death of teacher Ron Mayfield who committed suicide after being faslely accused of hitting a student.
In the future, a student who makes such allegations can expect consequences that will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Some of the other recommendations include a new curriculum at the elementary and middle schools to promote respect.


Also, teachers who are accused of wrongdoing may be reassigned to an alternative work site.
Right now, they are sometimes suspended and told to stay off school property.

After months of wrangling, city council gave final approval Wednesday night to a rezoning request.
The vote was 3 to 2.
Concept One wants to renovate the old New River Industries building and turn it into a school for at- risk boys.

A Virginia Tech student is recovering from injuries he sustained after falling from a fourth floor window at his dorm.

Police say nobody saw 19 year old freshman, Michael Bury fall from the bathroom window.
A female student found him around 4:00 yesterday morning, lying unconscious in the grass.
The Fairfax native was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital, no word on his exact injuries.
Police are still investigating why Bury fell, but officers say alcohol was definitely a factor.
