The initial building that caught fire is near a university parking garage and bookstore and the Seigel Center, VCU's main sports arena.
Police going door to door in the area asking people to leave their homes.
Dominion Power has shut off power to buildings in the area for safety reasons.
Traffic is at a standstill in the area including on I-95.

A student was removed from Giles County High School this week after allegedly threatening several classmates.

The male student is now being investigated by the Giles County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say the threats involved bodily harm and they say, despite rumors, there is NOT a hit list targeting students.
School officials say this is an isolated incident but they take all threats seriously.

A pilot of a Navy F-18 jet ejected moments after takeoff this afternoon at the Raleigh Durham airport.

An eyewitness says the jet appeared to lose power soon after taking off. It crashed and burned on the runway.
An airport spokeswoman says the pilot's condition isn't known, but he was seen walking around the wreckage before an ambulance took him away.
The pilot was the only one on the plane, and no one on the ground was injured.

A female pastor who attacked her lover's husband has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Judy Brown was convicted of attacking fellow pastor Ted Smart with a crowbar last August.
Judge James Swanson said Brown had led an exemplary life, but committed an egregious act on a man who's only fault was that he was married to the woman she loved.
After her jail time, Brown will serve eight years on probation and may not have any contact with any member of the Smart family.

Actually, it was just one horse, but the story, and the pictures are wild indeed. The horse, named "Deja Vu", threw its rider during a morning workout yesterday at a California racetrack. Then it escaped, leading security personnel on a wild chase down a nearby highway. Deja Vu was eventually subdued and and should be able to race again by May. You could say he is once again in "stable" condition.

Tom Cruise and longtime girlfriend Penelope Cruz are cruising their separate ways.
Both of their publicists tell People magazine they split up in January but they are still friends.
Penelope Cruz's spokesman says religion was not involved in the break-up.
And he says she had not become a Scientologist. But he says she has taken Scientology courses. Tom Cruise is a Scientologist.
The magazine points out that Cruise and Cruz were often apart filming movies during the three years they were dating.
They met while filming ``Vanilla Sky.''
