It's also taking its toll on higher education.
Radford University had to raise tuition 14 percent this year and another increase for next year is in the works.
Radford's president says until a state budget is passed with adequate funding for colleges and universities students will end up paying the price.

The budget uncertainty is being felt on state college campuses across Virginia. At Virginia Tech, tuition is going up next year, but at this point, no one knows by how much.

The state budget impasse has Tech's budget process at a virtual standstill.
As they wait for lawmakers to make up their minds, the Board of Visitors voted today for a maximum tuition hike of 9-point-6%.
Under that proposal, it would cost an in-state undergraduate an extra 883-dollars to attend Tech.
Even with the full hike, Tech would remain the most affordable university in the state.

Some people who believe the Roanoke Valley has a morality problem have formed a group to take care of it.

They call themselves Concerned Christians of the Roanoke Valley and they met for the first time tonight at Hollins Road Baptist Church.
It is a group made up of area churches that plan to address moral and family value issues.
They formed after Vinton voters approved off track betting and Roanoke expanded alcohol sales at the Civic Center.
The group is moving forward with plans to appeal the A-B-C board's decision to grant that new alcohol license.

Massachusetts is one step closer to banning gay marriage.

Legislators today approved a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage- and legalize civil unions.
The proposed amendment won't go to the voters until the Fall of 2006.
Meanwhile, the state's highest court is set to implement a ruling that allows same sex marriages in just seven weeks.. but tonight the governor says he'll ask the court for a formal stay of the ruling.

Canadian police used the Internet and persistence to help the F-B-I find an American victim of child pornography.

By examining detailed portions of the pornographic images, police in Canada were able to lead the F-B-I to a six year old girl in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. The key details in the images were a wristband the girl wore in some of the pictures and a badge on her girl scout uniform.

The board determined Pajewski (Pie-yes-key) overmedicated David Hudson and failed to monitor him after surgery. Pajewski's attorney, however, says he WILL file an appeal before next month's deadline.

The study was released at the meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Dark buckwheat honey contains the most.
Fruits and vegetables also contain antioxidants- though some say it's easy to add honey to your diet.

The 40 year old Henrickson formally accepted the Kansas head coaching job and the sweet contract that comes with it. Bonnie gets a five-year deal with a base salary of $130,000 a year.
