Jean, it's not exactly the news investigators had hoped for to solve the case.

For months, Henry County deputies have been waiting for the state crime lab to process the mountain of evidence.
It has finally been completed, but the sheriff revealed today there is no smoking gun.

The case began in August 2002 when Michael and Mary Short were found shot to death in their Henry County home.
Their daughter Jennifer was nowhere to be found and a nationwide amber alert turned up nothing.
Her remains were discovered more than a month later in Rockingham County North Carolina.
To this day, investigators remain focused on Gary Bowman, a North Carolina carpenter who was implicated by his former landlord.
Sheriff Frank Cassell said today he remains a person of interest and they're keeping eye on him at his current residence in North Carolina.

As for the evidence at the state crime lab, Henry County deputies have picked up most of the evidence and Sheriff Cassell says despite no major find, it has provided some clues.

State Police say part of I-81 will be closed until at least morning after a tractor trailer crashed tonight near Natural Bridge.

The truck ran off the highway near mile marker 174, ran over a guardrail and down a 100 foot embankment, rolling over several times.
The driver, 55 year old Jacob L. Ryn (Rinn) is recovering from his injuries at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. He's charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

A southbound lane of I-81 in that section of Rockbridge and Botetourt Counties will be closed while crews salvage the truck.
The rig was carrying 50- thousand pounds of grapes. State Police say the truck and cargo are probably a total loss.

Part of the agreement to allow Rice's testimony includes the commission saying it will not ask for any one higher up to testify in public. The decision to testify comes on the heels of claims made by the former White House Counterterrorism chief. Richard Clarke has already testified that the Bush administration was too slow in reacting to al-Qaida threats. Rice is expected to testify at the end of next week.

Police in Danville and the New River Valley say they have collared vending machine thiefs, in separate cases.
We'll start in Pearisburg, where police may have ended a two-year crime spree.

They arrested 44 year old Charles Edward Dawson and 23 year old Charles Derek Dawson early Sunday morning.
The father and son were stopped near Davis' Auto.

Investigators say they found burglary tools, a piece of a vending machine and large amounts of coins and dollar bills.

Police say the Dawson's may be suspects in dozens of vending machine break-ins across Giles, Bland, Pulaski and Wythe Counties.
They're facing numerous charges and are being held at the Regional jail without bond.

Carroll County authorities have made an arrest in connection with a spree of daytime burglaries.
A three month investigation led the sheriff's office to 31 year old Ricky Dean Parker of the Wards Gap section of Carroll County.

Parker is being held on 40-thousand dollars bond.

Six foot-seven inch Franklin County center Ty Sigmon will play for Page Moir's Maroons next season. The senior averaged 6 points and five rebounds a game this past season for the District champion Eagles.

NASCAR's slapped Jamie McMurray with some punishment today.

Despite the nasty weather William Byrd played soccer tonight and the boys' team beat Staunton River 7-to-nothing. The win is significant because it marks the 300th soccer win in school history - all coming under coach Jeff Highfill.

Curiousity got the best of a nine year old California boy-

He and another boy saw a rattlesnake by a fence near their elementary school, thought it was dead and decided to pick it up.
That's when the snake bit the boy- He was airlifted to the hospital, but is in good condition tonight.
