StarTek has purchased the old Heilig-Meyers furniture store in the Plaza Shopping Center.
The building will be turned into StarTek's latest "customer service call center," one of nineteen in North America.
They expect to hire more than 540 people within the next year.
City leaders hope the business will help create more opportunities in the Plaza, which has seen several of its major stores close their doors.

The doors are still open at Dan River Fabrics in Danville, and the company says today's filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection should help keep them open.

A spokeswoman says the plant will not shut down, and all 3-thousand employees there will still have jobs, get paid and receive their benefits.

The idea for his latest project came totally by accident.

What makes it unique is that it's entirely made out of foam.

Each stone is made to look exactly like the ones in England.
They stand 13 1/2 feet tall and 4 feet wide.
Cline chose foam because it is easy to sculpt and should weather the elements just fine.
He hopes Foamhenge will attract visitors from all over the country.

Roanoke police say a late-afternoon argument today led to a stabbing. The victim is hospitalized, and the his alleged attacked is under arrest. Police have charged Darryl Beale with the stabbing in the 43-hundred block of Old Spanish Trail. 23 year old Ronnie Tannell Junior is under treatment at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

A search for evidence in a murder case took Roanoke City Police underwater today. A dive team searched a small community lake a few hundred yards from the home where 77 year old Teresa Rogers was found dead in early January. A police spokesperson confirmed the search was related to the murder, but would not say what the divers were looking for. Police have said- -by way of court records- -that the victim's son, Christopher, has made "inconsistent statements."
The two lived on the same seven-acre farm in separate homes. NO charges have been filed.

The Richmond Catholic diocese introduced its new leader today. The Reverend Francis DiLorenzo will become the 12th Bishop in diocese history.
DiLorenzo is 61, and right now is the head of the Honolulu diocese in Hawaii.
He succeeds Bishop Walter Sullivan who retired last year after leading the diocese for 29 years.
The new bishop will be installed on May 24th.

All but 12 turned him down. His D-C visit comes two days before a pre-trial hearing is scheduled in his alleged molestation case.

That was the case for Michael and April Moore, who became the parents of three identical bundles of joy yesterday morning at Roanoke Community Hospital. Babies Anderson, Bay and Campbell weighed-in at a a little more than three pounds each, without the help of fertility drugs. The Moore's already have a 2-year-old, and they say the odds of have any more children are very, very slim.

Many fans are hoping that one of the coaches on Weaver's list is current Western Carolina head coach Beth Dunkenberger. She was an assistant at Tech for 8 seasons and was part of the staff that led the Tech women to their first two NCAA appearances. She got her masters degree from Tech, and she has an amazing number of local ties. Her brother is here in Roanoke and her parents still live in Shawsville. Dunkenberger, by the way, was valedictorian at Shawsville High School her senior year.

One player Beth, Bonnie or any coach would love to have is Candace Parker. She beat the boys at the McDonald's all-star game festivities in the slam dunk competition. Parker is from Naperville, Illinois, she's six-three, and she's headed to the University of Tennessee.
