Those possible new uses could include construction of an amphitheatre on currently unused Explore Park property, in hopes of making it more of a destination. Word of this proposal was presented tonight at a news conference in Roanoke County.

Right now, there is a specific zoning restriction for Explore Park called a "conservation overlay". It places strict limits on any construction and activities that involve private businesses. But many officials say that prevents public-private partnerships that could create new possibilities for the park without changing the historic look or purpose of the park's central area.
