Governor Mark Warner says if Virginia is ever going to produce a balanced two-year budget, some taxes will have to be increased.

Some Virginia college students are hoping their 200 thousand pennies will help in the debate over the state's sale tax.

Students from Virginia-21 delivered pennies to the state treasurer yesterday to show their support for a one penny increase in the sales tax.
The group says the sales tax hike will help keep college tuition rates from soaring.

The Botetourt County School Board finalized its budget for the next school year even though the final state budget is not in.

Last night, members approved a nearly 39-million dollar budget, one based on Governor Warner's proposal.
It includes a two-percent raise for teachers, five-percent for administrators and supervisors and an increase in the retirement rate.
Botetourt county administrators previously paid 3-point-7 per cent to retirement, and with the increase, they will pay more than eight percent.

Many are questioning a proposal about whether an amiphitheater would bring more visitors to Virginia's Explore Park.

A Radford man is sent to the hospital after his car was hit by train yesterday.

Police say 63- year- old Cary Tolbert turned off Apperson Drive in Salem and into the path of a train.
His Toyota sedan was pushed about 50 feet and then thrown to the side of the tracks. Witnesses say the crossing signal WAS working. Tolbert is in good condition. Salem Police are still investigating, but so far, no charges have been filed.

Students at Cave Spring High School haven't finished the race yet when it comes to building their new track.

So far, they've raised 145-thousand dollars but still need at least another million.

The couple waited nearly six weeks before claiming the jackpot.
