It's the same old song on the Commonwealth's official tune. Despite 6 years of work by a legislative panel, efforts to choose a new state song are fading. Eight finalists for a new state song have been chosen, but so far there's no winner. The subcommittee's work is scheduled to end July 1st. That would leave Virginia as the nation's only state without a state song. The subcommittee used a contest to get new submissions, but a lawsuit, copyright issues and politicking held up progress. Virginia's old state song "Carry Me Back to Ole Virginny" was retired in 1997.

But Mickelson buckled down, shedding his normally conservative approach.
At the par 4, 14th, Mickelson sticks the approach on the dance floor. He nearly holed out for an eagle, but tapped in for birdie, one of five over the last seven holes.
Then at the 16th, he drained another birdie with a good roll right in the jar to get to within a shot of the lead.

With Els in the clubhouse, Mickelson had a 20 footer for the win. I think he likes it. It sneaks in the side door as Mickelson finished off a 69 to finish at 9-under claiming his very first major championship.

It's called the rocket war of Vrondados, and the goal is to hit the bell tower of the opponent's church to mark the resurrection of Christ. The tradition dates back to the early 19th century, when sailors returning home from war began a custom of firing small cannons during the Easter holiday. The tradition can be dangerous, though. In the past, there have been several reports of fires and injuries during the event, and even some deaths. (------------)
