What began as a dirt track in 1947 with less than 800 seats has now grown into a multi- million dollar business in Southside. Today the Martinsville Speedway hosted the Advance Auto Parts 500, but as Jennifer Wishon reports, it's Southside businesses who are taking home the checkered flag.

Raceway Ministries is an organization made up of Southern Baptist churches in Martinsville and Henry County. The group has been ministering at the Martinsville Speedway for 13 years. Founder John Fox moved to the area about 14- years ago. He says he got the idea after getting stuck in race- traffic one April Sunday.

A bus carrying a soccer team from North Carolina overturned earlier today outside of Paris, killing one passenger and injuring nearly two dozen others.

The part of the Olympic Development Program, and the team had been playing in an international tournament in Western France. Walker called authorities this morning saying he found what he believed to be a body in a wooded area on his property.

Meteorologists say downburst winds hit 90 to 100 miles per hour -- knocking down trees and damaging buildings. Several large trees toppled onto houses and split the roof. Hail was also reported in Syracuse as the storms continued eastward across the state.

Not a good day for the Braves and in particular Chipper Jones. Florida's Luis Castillo led off the sixth inning with a drive to the gap in left-center. Jones lunged for the ball near the wall, then collapsed on the warning track after failing to make the catch. The left fielder immediately grabbed his right hamstring, which was initially hurt a week earlier in a game against the Cubs. The hamstring wasn't a problem in the first two games against the Marlins as he homered in each.

Chipper had to be helped to his feet by two teammates, and he was then carted off to the clubouse. The Braves beat the Marlins 3 to 2 in 10 innings.

The Salem Avalanche completed a three game sweep of Wilmington this afternoon - winning its third straight one run game. Today's 4-to-3 sends the Avs home on a high note. Tomorrow they open up a three game home stand at Slaem Memorial against the Frederick Keys.

A very rare set of golden monkey twins were born at a zoo in China recently. The chance of producing twin golden monkeys is about one in ten thousand, but with only ten thousand of the breed left in existence, twins were nearly unthinkable. These are the third and fourth golden babies born at the zoo this year. Zoo keepers say the year of the monkey has be(------------) en quite productive!
