It's a different story in Radford where residents could soon pay more for cigarettes and electricity.

The city council is considering a few tax and fee increases. If approved, a pack of cigarettes would cost an extra 15 cents. Officials estimate the tax could mean an extra 50-thousand dollars a year for the city. Council members are also thinking about increasing electric rates, which could generate another 60-thousand dollars. Officials say the tax increases may not be necessary. It all depends on what legislators decide to do with the state budget.

A judge in Poughkeepsie, New York, today sentenced the ex-wife of photographer O. Winston Link to a term of six months to three years in prison for stealing hundreds of items from her late husband.
The former Conchita Link and her NEW husband, Edward Hayes, admitted under oath that photographs and other items found in a storage locker last year were indeed stolen from Winston Link.
Hayes was sentenced to a year in a county jail.
The pair told the court they have nothing else that was stolen from Link.
The prosecutor says if more stolen Link items turn up in the future, he'll hit the two with perjury charges.

Police say 22 year old Brenda Joan Fonseca (fon-SAY-kuh) was dead at the scene. The accident happened around noon on Price's Fork Road. According to witnesses, the car went off the edge of the road and Fonseca over corrected. The car hit a guardrail and flipped down the embankment, ejecting the woman from the car. Police say Fonseca was not wearing her seat belt. It took crews several hours to remove the car.

Boston slowly chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Jason Varitek got just enough of this Kevin Brown pitch to find the bullpen. The solo homer made it a 4-to-3 game. The Sox would eventually come back and win it 5 to 4 and they got plenty of help from the Yankees. Hideki Matsui misplays this routine fly ball in left off the bat of David McCartty. That error would result in the winning run crossing the plate later in the frame.

And A-rod continues to struggle. He was 1 for 5 with an error. He's now hitting 160 for the season.

Catherine Ndereba (da-REH-bah) of Kenya won the women's marathon for the third time although her 16-second margin of victory tied for the smallest in women's race history. Timothy Cherigat won the men's race in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 37 seconds to complete a Kenyan sweep. It was one of the hottest races in the event's 108-year history, though still more than 10 degrees cooler than the 96 degrees reached in 1976 - when the race was dubbed the "Run for the Hoses."
