A former high school football coach convicted of slapping a player has his conviction overturned.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Halifax Co./June 2003]

It was a Patrick Henry High School player that said head coach Kevin Clifford slapped him after a game in Halifax County in the fall of 2002.
The coach was convicted of misdemeanor assault last summer and fined fifty dollars.
Clifford resigned his position as coach, and also appealed the conviction.
Late today, a circuit court judge in Halifax County reversed the verdict. The student did *not* initially report the incident but witnesses and an anynomous letter led to investigations by the Roanoke School System and social services.
Clifford's attorney said that delay created doubt about the claim.
