After nearly a month in captivity by Iraqi kidnappers, contractor Thomas Hamill escaped. Not only did he get away, he found U-S troops and led them back to the house where he had been held. Elizabeth Sanchez is in Hamill's hometown and has reaction from the family.

((No longer hostage to these Iraqi insurgents... American contractor, Tommy Hamill, saw a chance at escape and took it.

He heard a convoy go by, pried the door open and ran after them. Early accounts are that Hamill pried open a door then ran 1/2 a mile to catch the U-S patrol he had seen from inside his prison. Later, the 43-year-old led troops back to the house where inside, two Iraqis with automatic weapons were found and arrested.

Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, US military spokesperson He has spoken to his family and he is now ready to get back to work." Hamill, a dairy farmer from Mississippi signed on as truck driver for the Halliburton Corporation in Iraq to pay off debts. He re-surfaced Sunday just south of Tikrit and is reportedly in good health, but suffering from an infected gunshot wound. A wound, first speculated about when his disturbing abduction video was first seen April 10th.

"They attacked our convoy. That's all I'm going to say." The day before, Hamill's convoy was ambushed and set ablaze. His left arm bandaged, and his jeans bloodied - this and video later released on the Arabic TV station Al-Jazeera- was the last anyone had seen or heard anything about the Mississippi native.

Loved ones feared for the worst when 5 bodies were later found and identified as those from Hamill's same convoy. Then, Sunday, here in Macon Mississippi, Hamill's wife Kellie got a call about 6 in the morning telling her that her husband was found alive and well. She says it was the "best wake-up call" she's ever had

Sean Gillis was arrested Thursday in the deaths of three women. On Friday, police say he confessed to two additional murders. Now, his attorney says Gillis has admitted to killing three more women since 1994 -- for a total of eight. In an interview, Gillis' attorney says he told his client he thought he was ``crazy," and will ask a court to order a psychological evaluation. So far, Gillis has not been charged with any crime, but police are holding him without bond.

A children's lemonade stand is generating big money for one local organization.

Yesterday these kids opened their lemonade stand for the season. Instead of collecting quarters to spend on themselves- the kids are raising money for the Rescue Mission's Women and Children's Center. The organization has already raised more than three-million dollars and wants to raise 725-thousand more to aid in construction costs. The stand will be open Monday through Friday from 11:30-1:30, and on Saturdays, from 11:30-2:30.

The opener was scoreless into the 7th when Pat Peavey lifted a sac fly to right field scoring Ryan Stegall from third to put the Avs up 1-nothing.

The spring season for high school sports is winding down, but the Covington high school softball team is still reveling in its new facility. Intern reporter Tonya Sizemore has the story of the Jackson River Recreation Sports Complex, a field of dreams that was a long time coming.

((Many people in the community of Covington were involved in the project, giving grants and donating land. The 1.2 million dollar facility was completed in late fall. The Jackson River Recreation Sports Complex features five lighted softball fields, basketball courts, lighted tennis courts, soccer fields, playground equipment, plus a walking trail and picnic areas. Covington is the first community in the country to have the latest technology in sports field lighting. All of the lights are controlled by computers timers through a satellite dish. Movable support panel fences and portable mounds make the new fields versatile, and as a result, they are booked through the end of summer. Covington's softball team is enjoying its new digs, and the players are anxious to introduce other local schools to the facility in the upcoming Blue Ridge District Softball Tournament. But instead of promoting Taco bell, these chihuauhuas were promoting Cinco de Mayo. Chihuahuas of all sizes gathered in Chandler, Arizona for the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration. Each year, Chihuahuas and their owners come to A-J Chandler Park to show off their style, just hang out, or participate in the popular Chihuahua races. Cinco de Mayo, or the 5th of May, commemorates the Mexican victory over the French army in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. (------------)
