A Roanoke man is in critical condition after being shot at an after hours party early this morning.
Police say an officer heard shots in the 33-hundred block area of Salem Turnpike just before three this morning.

When officials arrived on the scene, they found 32 year old Raghib Muhammad suffering from an apparent gun shot wound. Muhammad was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Police say 33 year old Alton Tweedy, Junior was driving an illegal truck, that had bald racing tires and no tags,
when he wrecked last night.
Officials say Tweedy was driving on Candler's Mountain Road near Dove Lane when he ran off the road, hit a mailbox then continued off the road and struck a tree.
Police say he was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown through the windshield.
Tweedy was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Patrick County dog-breeder plans to appeal a conviction on animal cruelty charges. Clarence Foley was found guilty yesterday in general district court of performing a cesarean sections on two dogs without anesthesia.

The Sierra Club plans to file a lawsuit to overturn A-E-P's permit to build the line across national forest land.

The 765 kilo-volt line would run from Wyoming County West Virginia to Jackson's Ferry in Wythe County.
The Sierra Club says the forest service's 2002 decision to allow the line to cross public land violates federal law and forest service regulations.

Though the budget earmarks more money for higher education, Radford University's tuition is still going up.

The Board of Visitors raised tuition and fees by 15-percent yesterday for in-state undergraduates. Room and board is also going up by 4-percent. That means it will cost an in-state undergrad an extra 848 dollars a year to go to the University. The measure was also supported by the student body. Officials say Radford remains one of the most affordable schools in the state, but is still also one of Virginia's most under funded Universities.

A birds nest is being blamed for a fire that damaged a home in Blacksburg last night.
Officials say the fire started around 9:20 in the garage of a home on the 3-thousand block of Lancaster Drive.
Flames quickly spread to the attic and a second floor bedroom of the main house.
Firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes.
Officials say birds had built a nest in the light fixture and the heat from the light caused it to catch fire.
No one was injured in the blaze.

Engine trouble forced a Waynesboro pilot to make an emergency landing in Bedford County.

Pilot Jerry Bass and his passenger weren' t injured yesterday as the two-seater landed on Heathwood Drive.
But the plane was damaged when it drifted into the grass and tipped onto its nose.
Bass built the experimental plane himself, and has logged 165 hours in the cockpit. Unsure of what caused the problem, Bass planned to haul the damaged plane home by truck.

A worker who fell from the roof of a house in Bedford Thursday has died.
Police say 47-year-old Sanford Lewis of Lynchburg was fixing a roof when he slipped and fell, landing on a concrete driveway.
He died last night at Carilion-Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Lewis worked for Liberty Home Improvements in Lynchburg.
