39-year-old Thomas Hicks of Salem, was driving a bus full of children to William Byrd High School when the accident happened. Police say Hicks cut the corner too close, pinning a car between a utility pole and the bus. No one was injured. The students were taken to school by another bus. Hicks, who's a subsititute driver -usually works at the Roanoke County schools transportation department. He was charged with reckless driving. School officials say he is certified to drive a bus and has a clean record.

They found 75 percent of the drinks and 85 percent of the snacks sold in vending machines at public schools are junk.

They expect that children will buy a balanced school lunch instead of banks of vending machines tempt children to dine on coke, snickers, candy bars and ho-hos.
Track: The USDA sets standards for nutrition content in school meals, but they dont regulate the foods sold in vending machines or snack lines. CSPI wants the government to take a tougher stance. Some say thats not the way to teach children about responsibility, but others say its better to take the temptation out of their hands.

When they get older they can make their own choices. For now well help them with healthy choices.
Stand up bridge Texas is one of a number of states trying to do something about the problem. Next school year there will be NO vending machines in elementary schools and they will only be available after lunch at middle schools.

She's 78-years-old, with one daughter, two grandsons and FIVE great-grandchildren.

But, that isn't going to stop Nellie Kirk from obtaining her high school diploma. Kirk enrolled in a workforce training program last year in Franklin County, and now more than 60-years after dropping out of high school, she'll finally get her diploma. Program organizers say she's earned it.
