It was a massive attack, aimed at 3 members of the top leadership of the U-S appointed Governing Council in Iraqand it killed one of them.
Hoshyar Zebari, Iraqi Foreign Minister:
I am very saddened today to report to you the death of Izzadine Saleem.
A powerful car bomb killed the Council's President as he arrived at a
gate to the U-S-controlled Green Zone.
Witnesses say the attacker pulled up alongside the car carrying Saleem
and detonated his explosives. Saleem died instantly along with eight
others.
Cami McCormick/CBS News:
Saleem, though, wasn't just another council member. He was special. A key moderate Shiite, he was at the heart of talks with U-N envoy Brahimi on the formation of the interim government and the handling of it's relationship with the increasingly powerful Shiite majority.
And then, this afternoon, Brig General Mark Kimmitt dropped another headline. A bomb containing the nerve agent Sarin exploded near an American convoy some days ago in Baghdad.
There were no deaths...but the presence of the potentially lethal agent was confirmed among some personnel.
Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt: There were very very small traces
however it was so minor - that the doctors already have
these people released.
This startling information, on the heels of an assasination, has for now re-focused attention away from prisoner abuse and upcoming court martial and underlines the extent to which Iraq has become one of the most dangerous places on earth.

Salem would manage to get one of those back in third, when Mark Obradovich drew a bases loaded walk from Paulino Reynosa. Pat Peavey scored to make it 3-to-1.
Reynosa didn't want to walk in another one, so he came right down the middle and the lead-off hitter Wade Robinson stroked this grand slam over the right field fence.
