Friday Triplett received an endorsement from Attorney General Jerry Kilgore and says his campaign was validated last month when Vice President Dick Cheney joined him in Roanoke for a fundraiser. A former NASCAR executive, Triplett has been back in the Ninth District for about a year now. He says his experience with the fastest growing sport in the nation will help him get the District's economy back on track.

The driver of a school bus that crashed in Roanoke County yesterday is still in the hospital.

Walt Kugelman is listed in serious condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was the driver of bus 147 that ran off of Buck Mountain Road near the Blue Ridge Parkway overpass around 3-thirty yesterday. 26 elementary and middle students were on the bus when it crashed, three suffered minor injuries.
Witnesses say the driver apparently had a medical problem just before the accident.

Tuition at Virginia's Community Colleges is going up again.
Less than two years after it voted to raise tuition by 31-percent, the State Board for Community Colleges voted yesterday to boost the tuition by 6-point-9 percent.

The board supported an increase in October 2002 in the face of budget cuts that were leading to layoffs, larger classes and fewer course offerings.
Now, board members say the increase will raise more than nine-million dollars for the state's 23 community colleges to pay for full-time faculty and projects.

The rate increase means tuition for in-state students will jump from just over 59-dollars per credit hour to more than 63 dollars. [take dollar board fs]

The first phase of the Riverway is paved and open for pedestrian traffic. The trail runs along side the New River from the Dedmon center to Wildwood park.
Plans for the trail date back to the 80's but a lack of funding kept them from being put into action.

The changes are scheduled to go into effect on January first. Existing day care providers will have eight years to comply with the new rules. A Pulaski company that falsified compliance certificates on military contracts has pledged to teach other government contractors to comply properly. Bondcote Technical Manager Darrell Wayne Holden pled guilty in federal court, falsyfying certificates that Bondcote fabric met government specifications. When federal agents seized samples of material used in tents and tarps, they claimed the fabric was being treated with a chemical that can cause cancer. The company was fined a quarter of a million dollars and will pay one-point-seven million dollars to settle a civil suit. [MUSIC AND GRAPHICS] EchoStar Communications plans to hire 300 customer service representatives at its Christiansburg facility. The company says it needs more workers to handle the high demand for the DISH Network satellite- T-V. Officials hope to fill the new positions by the end of the year. [MUSIC AND GRAPHICS]
200 high-paying jobs are headed to Lynchburg. Microwave Circuits will spend more than two million dollars to move into the old C&P Telephone building on Kemper Street. The company makes components for communications equipment, including technology used in homeland security operations. Virginia's head men's lacrosse coach Dom Starsia will be the featured speaker at the season ending banquet for Roanoke Valley lacrosse this weekend.

Starsia will speak to the girls and boys high school teams from all across the Roanoke Valley at the Wyndam Hotel Sunday. The banquet gets underway at five PM. Starsia has spent 12 seasons at the University of Virginia and in that time he has won two national championships--one in 1999 and the other in 2003. He also took the Cavaliers to the NCAA title game in 94 and 96. Starsia has been selected ACC coach of the year six times. He's widely regarded as one of the best teachers and motivators in the game.
