A relatively strong earthquake shook central and northern Iran today, killing at least six people and injuring 20 more.
The quake registered six-point-two.
State-run Iranian television says it was felt in eight provinces, and was centered in the capital of Maz- andaran province, near the Caspian Sea.
It was felt more than 100 miles away in the capital, where it broke windows and sent panicked residents rushing outdoors.
Iran is located on seismic fault lines, and is prone to earthquakes.
About 26-thousand people were killed last December in a magnitude six-point-six quake that hit the southeastern city of Bam.

Scott Peterson case, it took less than an hour to pick a jury. Dean Johnson/Criminal Defense Attorney " They hold Scott Peterson's fate in their hands now, these twelve people." Gomez The twelve member panel is predominantly white and is evenly divided between men and women. Yet legal experts say there are a few wild cards that could create problems for both sides. One juror, a white male in his fifties, turned to his parish priest for guidance on the death penalty. He also acknowledged, he thought Scott was guilty, but assured the judge, he could be fair. Another juror, a former cop, was accused of violating a restraining order. And then there's juror number nine, the thirty year old woman was married to a convicted murderer, who was later killed in prison. Jason Bennert/Bay City News Reporter " She got added to the jury at the last minute after the first juror number nine uh had a hardship excuse. So when she got added the prosecutors really had to be kicking themselves." Gomez For those who didn't make it onto the final jury, there was a sense of relief. Before the jury was excused the judge warned them to stay away from media reports. He also reminded them the trial starts on Tuesday and is expected to last, up to six months. The ruling came after the prosecution finished presenting its case in the trial arising from the disappearance of Logan Bowman.
The judge's decision means Schermerhorn faces just a single count of child-neglect.
It's uncertain what this will mean for the schedule of the trial.
