We have been seeing severe thunderstorms pass through are region this morning.

Roanoke County police hope to find more drunk drivers and get them off the roads by setting up DUI checkpoints. They conducted two DUI checkpoints Saturday night

[Take DUI FS] and tell us they arrested nine drivers for DUI, and another for refusing to take a breath test. In addition, the checkpoints led to four charges for driving under suspension.

In other news, Investigators still don't know what cause a house fire in Roanoke yesterday.

Roanoke firefighters were called out shortly after 10 o'clock Sunday morning to a home on Beech Street. They say the fire started in the back bedroom, which was engulfed in flames when they arrived. The renter was home at the time, but was *able to escape unharmed.* Officials estimate the fire caused more than 100-thousand-dollars in damage to the home and its contents.

Two people have died on area lakes this weekend, the latest on Lake Moomaw in Bath County. That follows a jet skier's death Friday evening on Smith Mountain Lake. Authorities there say 39 year old Elton Edgar Brinkley of Millboro was killed yesterday in a boating accident.
