A woman who said she found a mouse in her soup at a Hampton Cracker Barrel restaurant is facing criminal charges.

Carla Patterson and her son Ricky have been charged with attempted extortion and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Prosecutors say the Pattersons planted the mouse in the vegetable soup on Mother's Day in an effort to extort money from the restaurant.
Cracker Barrel spokeswoman Julie Davis said a company investigation showed the mouse died from a fractured skull, had no soup in its lungs, and was NOT cooked.
That indicates the mouse had been dropped in the soup after its death.
