The state's unemployment rate dropped in the month of April.
It fell to three-point-one percent.
It was three-point-four percent in March.
The state employment commission attributes the drop to an increase of travel and tourism jobs.
Seven of eight metropolitan areas saw lower unemployment.
Only Danville increased.
Lexington and Rappahannock County are tied with the lowest rate at one-point-two percent.
Martinsville had the highest at 14-point-seven percent.

Prosecutor Rick Distaso detailed Peterson's extramarital affair with
Amber Fry and played tapes of Peterson telling Fry he was in Europe when
he was actually at a vigil for Laci.
Then there were conflicting accounts of his whereabouts the day of the
crime. Telling some he played golf..others he was fishing..

Defense attorney Mark Geragos is expected to offer innocent explanations
for Peterson's actions including why his client was carrying his
brother's driver's license and a large amount of cash when he was
arrested near the Mexican border.
And with no murder weapon and no official cause of death ...the defense
lawyer argues that the prosecution has a flimsy case and concentrated
on Peterson while ignoring other leads.
Opening statements from the defense could take the entire day.......
..then finally Prosecutors will call their first witness... expected to
be the Peterson's housekeeper.

For the last 13-years he's served as Vinton's town attorney... now Buck Hartwell is stepping down.
Last night Hartwell announced he will be leaving the post at the end of the month.
Hartwell has served in the part-time position since November of 1991.
He's also in private practice and serves as Botetourt's County attorney.
Hartwell says he's stepping down to devote more time to his family and other responsibilities.
Vinton's town manager says they hope to have a new town attorney in place by July 1st.

A woman who said she found a mouse in her soup at a Hampton Cracker Barrel restaurant is facing criminal charges.
Carla Patterson and her son Ricky have been charged with attempted extortion and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Prosecutors say the Pattersons planted the mouse in the vegetable soup on Mother's Day in an effort to extort money from the restaurant.
Cracker Barrel spokeswoman Julie Davis said a company investigation showed the mouse died from a fractured skull, had no
soup in its lungs, and was NOT cooked.
That indicates the mouse had been dropped in the soup after its death.

In Chicago, police are investigating a fiery hit and run incident that was caught on tape.

Early this morning, a cab driver stopped at a gas station to fuel up.
That's when authorities say another vehicle-- possible an S-U-V-- hit the gas pump, which exploded.
The cab driver was able to escape by crawling out of the passenger door.
Meanwhile, the other vehicle backed up and drove away.
Police are now looking for the driver.

In Major League baseball, RBI leader Scott Rolen was involved in a scary moment

The St. Louis Cardinals third baseman was beaned on by Ryan Vogelsong in the first inning.
Rolen's helmet was knocked off, but he quickly rose to his feet and walked to first.

A team official says Rolen was taken out for precautionary reasons and will be re- evaluated today.
