A man wanted for murder in Franklin County is now in custody.

Stanley Dion Tate surrendered to police in Danville about eight o-clock last night.
Authorities say Tate's lawyer called them earlier and said he would turn himself in.

Tate is wanted for the murder of a woman in Franklin County.
Charmane Tamika Davis was found shot to death last month inside a home on Water's Edge Road near Smith Mountain Lake.
Tate was her boyfriend and is the father of two of her three children.
Investigators believe she caught Tate at his home with another woman.
Franklin County officers were in Danville last night.
They hope to arraign Tate in Franklin County later today.
He also faces drug charges in Danville.

A Christiansburg couple is custody for stealing donations from a man in a wheelchair.
The robbery happened around 4-twenty last Saturday in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
Police say 26 year old Joshua Via took the money pail from a wheelchair bound man as he collected donations for the Disabled American Veterans. About 400 dollars was taken.
19 year old Krishna Via also faces charges.
Police say she hit a pedestrian as she drove a getaway car.
The pair was arrested Tuesday night.

A Lynchburg teacher has been charged with aggravated sexual battery of a juvenile.
44-year-old Norman Edward Riggs was arrested last week and is being held without bond.
Police say the offenses took place late last year and early this year, but *not* on the grounds of Heritage High School where Riggs has been a graphic arts teacher for five years.
Officials say Rigg's has been suspened but is still under contract while they review the situation.

Vinton will be getting 100 jobs when a new glass facility opens.

Construction began last month on the new Cardinal Glass plant.
The facility is 240-thousand square feet. It's been framed and crews are now working on the sprinkler system and roof.
The plant manager says the company plans to start operations in August and be fully-operational by October.
Cardinal Glass hopes to have 100-employees by the end of this year and increase that number to 200 next year.

Attorneys in the case against three Virginia Tech football players are arguing over trial dates for their appeals.

Quarterback Marcus Vick, Wide Receiver Brenden Hill and tailback Mike Imoh were all convicted two weeks ago of contributing to the delinquency of minors.

The three football players are appealing their convictions and want three separate jury trials.
Brenden Hill's attorney Dennis Nagel claims prosecutor Joey Showalter is refusing to set a date and that Hill is being treated unfairly.
But, in a letter to the judge, given to us by Dennis Nagel, the prosecutor argues it's the defendants seeking special treatment to accomodate their schedules.

Three U-V-A football players have been acquitted of disorderly conduct and vandalism after a campus shooting.
The three players were arrested, just hours after another teammate was shot outside a dorm.

A third player, defensive back Kenneth Tynes allegedly threw a chair through a dorm window near the shooting scene.

An Albemarle County judge acquitted Hagans and Lee of the misdemeanor charges on Tuesday.
Tynes was acquitted of a vandalism charge last month.

A former Giles County Pastor convicted of molesting a child got a victory in the courtroom.

A judge ruled yesterday that 53 year old Roger Holcomb will not have to undergo a new type of test used to evaluate convicted sex offenders.
Holcomb WAS to be shown pornographic images while hooked up to a machine that measures his arousal.
The judge also ruled Holcomb's attorney must be present for a lie detector test, but the results of that test can not be used in determining Holcomb's sentence.
The jury recommended a 10 and a half year sentence.
Holcomb won't be formally sentenced until sometime later this summer.

A school fight at a Lynchburg school leads to four arrests.

About a dozen officers responded to the Middle School Learning Center on Hollins Mill Road around noon yesterday.
The school resource officer there had broken up a fight between two students.. a few minutes later, a parent and sibling of one of the students arrived and began fighting too.
The Center is an alternative program for students who've had problems in the regular school system.
