A peace agreement in Iraq didn't last very long--
Today marks the first outbreak of violence since last week's truce between American troops and militia forces.

In the Shiite holy city of Najaf, militants loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr seized an Iraqi police station.
The standoff lasted for more than two hours. Four Iraqis were killed, 13 others were injured.
The militiamen looted the police station and burned police cars before finally leaving.
But today's battle did NOT involve U-S troops.

SCRIPT
Laci Peterson's family arrived at the courthouse facing questions about the effectiveness of the prosecution.
SUPER: SHARON ROCHA, LACI PETERSON'S MOTHER
"I THINK THEY'RE DOING GREAT"
They rejected criticism that the double murder case against Scott Peterson is not being presented effectively.
SUPER: BRENT ROCHA, LACI PETERSON'S BROTHER "THERE ARE NOT REALLY BOMBSHELLS COMING OUT BUT WE ARE HAPPY WHAT THEY ARE PRESENTING RIGHT NOW."
But then prosecutors got their closest thing yet to a bombshell ...Harry Kemple, second cousin by marriage testified, like other members of Laci's family, that Scott did not act like a grieving husband.
SUPER: HARRY KEMPLE, PROSECUTION WITNESS "I WAS SUSPICIOUS OF HIM FROM THE VERY ONSET."
Under cross examination by defense attorney Pat Harris, Kemple testified that at a fourth of July barbeque he saw Scott get more distressed over burning some chicken than over losing Laci.
SUPER: HARRY KEMPLE, PROSECUTION WITNESS: "THAT'S A FACT. ITS TRUE. THE MAN WAS UPSET ABOUT HIS BURNT CHICKEN THAN EVEN THINKIN' ABOUT FINDING HIS WIFE."
SUPER: DEAN JOHNSON, CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTY "THAT'S THE NEW ITEM THAT HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE MENU HERE-CHICKEN. KEMPLE WAS A VERY GOOD WITNESS FOR A PROSECUTOR."
And there was more. Kemple said that twice he followed Scott when he said he was going to distribute missing person posters.
SUPER: CHUCK SMITH, ATTORNEY:
"AND PETERSON DIDN'T GO WHERE HE SAID HE WAS GOING, TO HAND OUT FLYERS, BUT INSTEAD DID OTHER THINGS, ON ONE OCCASION WENT TO THE GOLF COURSE, WELL THAT IS DEVASTATING TOO."
And the defense was undercut again when a neighbor Karen Servas pinpointed the time she found Laci's dog running loose. Her testimony contradicts a defense theory that Laci was abducted later in the morning. Jb cbs news sf
