At least 35 people are believe to be dead and nearly 140 injured after an S-U-V loaded with artillery shells crashed into a crowd of people and exploded outside an army recruiting station in Iraq today. Officials say a terrorist with ties to Osama bin Laden is to blame. Charlie D'agata reports from Baghdad.

(( An all-too familiar scene on the streets of Baghdad...more carnage, the lives of more innocent civilians destroyed in a relentless terror campaign against anybody seen cooperating with the coalition.
Witnesses said a white SUV packed with explosives and artillery shells raced up outside the gates of an Iraqi army recruiting center and exploded...
It's the deadiest suicide bomb attack in Iraq since February, when a bomber killed 47 Army recruits at this very location.

BUT THEY ALSO SAY IT'S HAVING THE OPPOSITE EFFECT: THE MORNING AFTER THE LAST ATTACK AT THE RECRUITING CENTER, TWICE AS MANY VOLUNTEERS SHOWED UP, VOWING REVENGE.))

Although the target of the blast may have been the Iraqi forces, most of the recruits were already inside the compound...and on a busy Baghdad street at the height of rush hour, the bulk of the victims were Iraqi civilians.
Visiting the scene, interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi called on the people of Iraq to stay strong.
((ILYAD ALLAWI/INTERIM PRIME MINISTER: WE ARE GOING TO FACE THESE ESCALATIONS, WE ARE GOING TO FACE THE ENEMIES OF IRAQ AND THE IRAQI PEOPLE ARE GOING TO PREVAIL.))
But as the Iraqis continue to count their dead, they wonder how much longer they have to prevail...how much longer before the violence stops.))
