Authorities in Lynchburg have arrested a suspect they believe was involved in a shooting last night. 22-year-old Jamie Lamont Morgan was arrested at his residence without incident. Police say the shooting happened around 11:40 at Rivermont Avenue and Cabell Street. When the officiers arrived they found 44-year-old Riley Mason Johnson shot in the upper part of his leg. Johnson was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital and is listed in stable condition. Morgan faces malicious wounding and firearms charges.

A wanted felon from Charlottesville was apprehended in Pulaski County today. State Police attempted to pull over 23-year-old Earl Carlos Carr of Charlottesville for speeding around 8:30 this morning. Carr led the trooper on a high-speed chase,

until he wrecked his car just off Interstate 81 in the Draper area of the county and ran into the woods. State Police then called in aviation, tactical and K-9 crews to help. Five-hours later Carr was cornered and arrested in a nearby field.

The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors is set to continue hearings on two controversial land projects on Tuesday night.
Because of the number of people expected to attend, the session will begin at 6 p.m. instead of seven.

The coal industry in southwest Virginia is preparing for an expected boom by reaching out to community colleges in the region. The industry is trying to attact new workers. Many coal miners will retire in the next 10-years, and the average worker is 50 years old. Now, the industry is turned to Southwest Virginia and Mountain Empire Community Colleges to help find a solution to the issue. In fact, there has been discussion of the two colleges operating an actual coal mine as part of training.

A new web site for veterans will soon give them access to their medical records on-line. It's called my health-e-vet.

The government is launching the site in phases, but when it's complete, veterans will be able to refill prescriptions, view co-payment balances and their medical records, as well record and track health readings such as blood sugar levels.
The Salem VA plans to set-up several terminals where veterans can register and log-on.

At the Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke, Dad was honored all day long with "Dad's Day at the Zoo." Dad's were admitted free and could register for free gifts.
