Authorities in Henry County have arrested a man who is wanted for attempted murder in New York.
Officals say Wesley Nelson kicked down the door to a woman's apartment on Oak Street, and threatened her with a gun.
He was arrested a short time later.
He was wanted on 2 counts of attempted murder in New Rochelle, New York.
Now he faces assault and battery, breaking and entering, and firearms charges here.
Nelson is currently held in the Martinsville City Jail with NO bond.

According to state police the search has ended for a woman who is believed to have drowned at Smith Mountain Lake.

Rescue crews spent yesterday searching for 49 year old Judy Thurman of Roanoke.
Authorities say that Thurman and Brian Amos had been swimming in the cove, when Amos noticed that one of the couple's dogs had jumped overboard. He then jumped in after it and asked for Thurman's help.

Thurman went under shortly afterward. Saturday Coast Guard Auxiliary officers closed off the cove while State Police scoured the lake's bottom with side-scan sonar.

A Charlottesville man who was wanted on felony charges was arrested in Pulaski County. State Police attempted to pull over 23-year-old Earl Carlos Carr for speeding around 8:30 yesterday morning. Carr led the trooper on a high-speed chase,

until he wrecked his car just off Interstate 81 in the Draper area of the county and ran into the woods. State Police then called in aviation, tactical and K-9 crews to help. Five-hours later Carr was cornered and arrested in a nearby field.

The 23-year-old is wanted in Charlottesville on four outstanding felony warrants- including one for robbery. He'll now face a number of traffic related charges in Pulaski County.

The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors can expect a large crowd at tomorrow night's meeting. The session will begin at 6 p.m. instead of seven.

The coal industry in southwest Virginia is hoping to attract new workers by reaching out to community colleges in the region. Many coal miners will retire in the next 10-years, and the average worker is 50 years old. Now, the industry has turned to Southwest Virginia and Mountain Empire Community Colleges to help find a solution to the issue. In fact, there has been discussion of the two colleges operating an actual coal mine as part of training.

A motorcycle accident in Lynchburg sends one man to the hospital. . Police say 26 year old Carey Bryant was operating a stolen 2001 Suzuki motorcycle shortly after 2- 30 this morning, when he failed to make a left hand turn at Bedford and Rivermont Avenues. Authorities say Bryant then crossed over the intersection and struck a concrete wall. Bryant was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and was then flown to U-V-A Medical Center. His condition is unknown. The accident is still under investigation.

Dad was honored all day long with "Dad's Day at the Zoo." They were admitted free and could register for free gifts. In addition to train rides, the event brought families out to see the animals and spend a little quality time with their children- no matter how young or old they were. Some of the animals were easy to spot, but with others it took the kids and Dad a little bit longer to find them. (------------)
