A plane made an emergency landing tonight in Franklin County.

Another soldier with roots in Southwest Virginia has been killed in Iraq.
Army Staff Sergeant Gregory V. Pennington if from Glade Spring in Washington County. He died yesterday.
The Defense Department says he was killed during a mortar attack on his camp in Baghdad.
The 36-year old was assigned to the First Cavalry Division based in Fort Hood, Texas.

The Oak Forest Mobile Home park in the northern section of the county's seen three fires in two nights; a total of four in the last two months. This empty trailer caught fire around 4:30 Monday morning. Police believe they are looking for one or two people. Investigators also say the fires appear to be acts of vandalism and NOT designed to hurt anyone. The fires have caused several thousand dollars in damage. The U-S-S Razorback started out in the U-S Navy during World War II... was given to the Turkish Navy in 1970. It was bought back from Turkey for one dollar to be the centerpiece of a maritime museum in Arkansas.

Roanoker Earl Long served aboard the sub during the war. He remembers taking three Japanese prisoners. One was badly wounded, but was assigned a bunk in the torpedo room. The crew was given orders to feed the prisoner only twice a day.
