State Police say the two were walking along the side of Route 460 near Shawsville, when they were struck by a car.

The accident happened shortly after FIVE this evening.
Police say 21 year old Christopher M-Hight of Christiansburg was driving westbound on 460 when he ran off the right shoulder of the road.
The car struck the woman and her young daughter as they were walking in a right hand turning lane.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother was transported to Montgomery Regional Hospital where she died a short time later.
Hight has been charged with driving under the influence.
State Police say they will confer with the Commonwealth's Attorney before any additional charges will be filed.

Danville Police are investigating a suspicious death.
Shortly after 2-thirty this afternoon, a resident discovered a man's body in an abandoned taxi on Twin Oaks Lane.
Police say the body is badly decomposed.
They are currently trying to determine his identity and how he died. The body has been sent to Roanoke for an autopsy.
Anyone with information on the man's identity or his cause of death is asked to call Danville Police.

A boy is still in the hospital after being hit by a truck while he was riding his bicycle.

The 14 year old was riding his bike in the 18-hundred block of Riverdale Avenue in Southeast Roanoke when he was hit by the truck.
He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and is currently listed in serious condition.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
So far, NO charges have been filed, although the incident is still under investigation.

A Franklin County judge set the bond yesterday at 100-thousand dollars for 32-year-old Stanley Dion Tate.

Tate is charged with murdering his girlfriend, 28-year-old Charmane Davis of Danville.
Davis was found shot to death last month inside Tate's home near Smith Mountain Lake.
Investigators believe she caught him with another woman.

A Marine from Bluefield, West Virginia was killed this week in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense has announced 21 year old Lance Corporal Juston T-Thacker was killed near Bari Khout (bar-EE KOOT) when his unit came under fire.

The 33rd Roanoke Valley Horse Show wrapped up tonight with the 20th Grand Prix taking over the floor of the Salem Civic Center as a host of challengers took aim at 7 time champion Aaron Vale.

A packed house turned out to check out the showjumping.
Ian Silitch was one of those trying to put the heat on Vale. Silitch rode three different mounts tonight and had a clear round on the first of his entries Brave Ally, eventually making it through to the jump off.
Tracy Bartko Magness also turned in a fault free round on Kilpatrick.
But the night belonged once again to Vale. Vale rode four different horses including Romulus right here. He took 1st, 2nd and 4th grabbing his record 8th Grand Prix title and big share of the 50 thousand dollar total purse.

Right next door, the Salem Avalanche doubled up the Kinston Indians tonight 10 to 5, pounding out 13 hits in the process. Salem jumped on top with 3 runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back. The Avs and Indians close out the series tomorrow afternoon at 2pm, followed by a three day All Star break.

In the College World Series, Texas and Cal State Fullerton are down to the best of three. In Game one, Fullerton's Felipe Garcia delivered this 2 out, 2 run single in the first inning. It was 3-nothing after one and the Titans grabbed a 1-oh lead in the series. They can close it out tomorrow while Texas hopes to force a game three on Monday.
