19 year old Vick is charged with reckless driving and possession of marijuana. State Police say a trooper clocked Vick going 86 miles an hour around 2:30 Saturday morning on Interstate 64. Police say they also found two bags of marijuana on him. The Newport News native was released on a summons and was NOT taken into custody. Vick was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined more than 22-hundred dollars in May after he and two teammates were convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His lawyer has appealed that conviction. Tech athletic director Jim Weaver ALSO announced today that Vick, tailback Mike Imoh and Wide Reciever Brenden Hill will be suspended for three games for that incident.

"in the short term you could describe them as worthless but more importantly that they're not necessary."
DURING THE STUDY ONE GROUP OF KIDS WITH A COLD RECEIVED OVER-THE-COUNTER COUGH SYRUP ... THE OTHER GROUP GOT A FAKE SYRUP. THE RESULTS: THE REAL MEDICINE WAS NO BETTER THAN THE DUMMY MEDICINE IN RELIEVING NIGHT-TIME COUGH AND AIDING SLEEP. EVENTUALLY THE KIDS GOT BETTER - BUT DOCTORS SAY THAT'S JUST THE COLD RUNNING ITS COURSE.

NOW THIS ISN'T THE END OF COUGH MEDICINE.... THE STUDY WAS DONE WITH ONLY 1-HUNDRED CHILDREN AND EXPERTS SAY MUCH MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED. WHICH IS WHAT SCIENTISTS ARE ALSO SAYING ABOUT ANOTHER STUDY THAT MAY HAVE FOUND DISCOURAGING NEWS ON MULTI-VITAMINS.

MORE THAN HALF OF ALL TODDLERS IN THE U-S TAKE MULTIVITAMINS.... WHICH ARE OFTEN ADDED TO FORMULA. AFTER ANALYZING MORE THAN 8-THOUSAND OF THOSE CHILDREN RESEARCHERS FOUND AFRICAN AMERICAN INFANTS HAD AN INCREASED RISK OF ASTHMA. AND ALL CHILDREN WHO WERE FED FORMULA HAD AN INCREASED RISK OF FOOD ALLERGIES.

(SOT-Doctor Field again)

"so the question is, and it's a very valid one in that are these vitamins working as co-factors to misdirect the immune system, that may be the whole fundamental reason behind this."
BUT THE FINDINGS LEAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS... AND MUCH MORE STUDY IS NEEDED TO FIGURE OUT IF MULTI-VITAMINS CAN ACTUALLY BE DETRIMENTAL TO A CHILD'S HEALTH. SO RIGHT NOW PARENTS SHOULD HOLD ON TO THEIR COUGH SYRUP AND MULTI-VITAMINS... BUT STAY TUNED, AS IT OFTEN DOES IN MEDICINE, THINGS COULD BE CHANGING. DOCTOR SEAN KENNIFF, CBS NEWS.))

Good afternoon everybody and welcome to the post-Holiday ticker. The Tour De France's third stage was held today, and while it appeared to be a rather uneventful stage for Lance Armstrong - it was anything but that today.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Wasquehal, France/OLN; :00]

Armstrong and his U.S. Postal Service teammates did a great job of staying out of trouble today and riding a conservative race.
Armstrong is fifth overall right now, 16 seconds behind leader Robbie McEwen of Australia. Armstrong turned two treacherous cobblestone stretches of the Tour de France to his advantage today, while his top Spanish rival Ivan Mayo crashed and likely saw his chances to winning evaporate. Mayo went down as teams were juggling for position and riding almost flat out to place themselves at the front of the pack before hitting the bumpy stretch. But the riders got a little too aggressive and the chain reaction crash took out most of Mayo's team. Mayo, continued on, but without his teammates he could not make up the lost ground and finished 151st of the 184 riders that crossed the finish line. Mayo is now four minutes and seven seconds behind Armstrong after today's 130 mile stage that was won by Jean-Patrick Nazon of France.

Information: LEDE London's first monument to Princess Diana was dedicated this morning, with her family and the royal family watching. CBS News Correspondent Mark Phillips watched the ceremony in London's Hyde Park. ON CAM OPEN This is about more than simply dedicating a memorial to a dead princess. This is about appearing to heal a great family rift. In fact think of this as family feud in diamond tiaras. V/O (Fountain gurgling) The design of the fountain is supposed to symbolize Diana's life -- smooth flowing in some places, turbulent in others. But this water sculpture memorial is performing another symbolic function today as well -- its two streams melding into one... (Spencers/Windsors) ... might just represent the reconciliation of the Spencer family -- hers -- and the Royal Windsors, which have been feuding like aristocratic Hatfields and McCoy's ever since Diana's death. (Queen at ceremony or with people/ditto Spencer) The fountain's official opening today is the first time the Windsors -- headed by The Queen -- and the Spencers -- represented by Diana's brother, Earl Spencer -- have been seen together publicly since her funeral seven years ago. That's the one where the Spencer criticism of the Royals did not go unnoticed. Earl Spencer September 6, 1997 SHE NEEDED NO ROYAL TITLE TO CONTINUE TO GENERATE HER PARTICULAR BRAND OF MAGIC (QEII) Today, though, it was left to Queen Elizabeth to bury the royal hatchet... speaking only well of the daughter-in-law who -- in life and death -- had so ruffled the Royal

The ceremony brought all the royals together. Diana's two sons -- princes William and Harry -- were there along with their father and her ex-husband, Prince Charles. Things have not moved on to the point where his mistress -- Camilla Parker Bowles -- might attend as well. But in actions and in words -- the tone today was one of tribute... and mending f
ences. (SOT QEII) ON BEHALF OF CHARLES WILLIAM AND HARRY AND OF ALL MY FAMILY, AND OF ALL THE PSNENCER FAMILY WITH US

TODAY I HAVE MUCH PLEASURE IN DECLARING THE DIANA PRINCESS OF WALES MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN OPEN....2:02 (funeral and Queen bowing) Princess Diana's death was the closest the British Royals have been to crisis in a generation. The spontaneous public outpouring of affection forced the Queen then into a famous bow of contrition. Today, the process was complete. Diana and her memory have been re-absorbed into the Royal Saga.
