One person is dead after a single vehicle accident in Carroll County last night. State police say Kelly Lynn Brentzel was a passenger in the back seat of a car that was speeding on Route 58 west.
They say the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the road, and struck the guardrail. Police would not release the name of the driver, or say if any charges are pending.

A Tazewell County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man after he apparently rammed the officer with his car.

It happened near the community of Pounding Mill where Sergeant Jonathan Lowe was responding to a domestic disturbance . The sheriff says after Lowe put a woman in the front seat of his cruiser, 25 year old Brian Dunford got into his pickup and struck the cruiser broadside as Lowe was getting in. Lowe's legs were pinned in his car door, and then he fired twice, hitting Dunford in the chest.

Dunford died at Clinch Valley Medical Center. Lowe suffered a broken leg, and is listed in stable condition at a hospital in Tennessee. State Police are investigating.

Danvile officials are investigating what they call a suspicious fire. Shortly before five o-clock yesterday, a home on the 13-hundred block of Branch Street caught fire. The blaze was put out in about 10 minutes, although it did do heavy damage to the structure. Authorities say nobody was home at the time, and noone was injured. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Danville Fire Department.

Investigators in Augusta County are trying to identify a woman whose body was reportedly dumped on the side of the road. Sheriff Randall Fisher says a man called the department Sunday morning after he saw a man and woman move the body from a maroon Pontiac Grand Am to the side of a road near Buffalo Gap. The sheriff says the woman appears to have been about 40 years old. Authorities are not sure how the woman died, and an autopsy is planned for today.

The city has installed filters on those wells and all of the chemical readings have fallen under the E-P-A guidelines for safe drinking water.

More than 30-thousand people turned out Friday night for "Celebration 2004."
This years event featured free carnival rides, live entertainment, and of course fireworks.
The Speedway says despite new owners there are no plans to end the event, and the event could grow in the future.
Fans who attended the celebration also saw for themselves the improvements being made to the track.
New asphalt and concrete should be in place within the next ten days.
