Officials are investigating a suspicious fire at a Giles County home tonight. The fire damaged a house on Giles Street in Rich Creek. The fire chief says no one was home at the time. State Police investigators will be on the scene tomorrow to determine the cause of the blaze.

Disturbing new details about a Wythe County neglect case that turned deadly.

According to search warrant affidavits, deputies got a call from a neighbor and discovered the body of a 65 year old woman. They say dogs were eating her left arm. It happened in the Speedwell section of the county, early Tuesday morning. Investigators say Esther Crigger died of natural causes from a serious respiratory illness, but they say abuse and neglect contributed to the death. She was found in a soiled diaper with her oxygen tank unplugged.

Union workers who have been on strike for six months at DanChem Technologies have now been locked out by the company.

That's according to members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400.
They say the lockout took effect June 28th and means the 55 workers still on strike may not rejoin the Danville company until the negotiations are resolved.
The lockout does not affect workers who crossed picket lines to return to work.
The company had no comment about the lockout, but the workers say they offered to return to work under their old contract and work until a new agreement is reached.
Talks broke off June 30 when the workers rejected a contract proposal.

But not everyone is so lucky.
If a truck flunks the initial test, it must stop and be weighed again.
If they fail that, the driver then has an hour to shift the load before receiving a violation. [GRAPHIC]
Out of the three million inspections last year, nearly 25-thousand led to a violation.

Those regulations are enforced by the Department of Motor Vehicles as well as a division of the State Police.
They're called the Motor Carrier Unit and their job is to randomly pull over trucks and give them a full inspection.

It is done either at the scales or on the highway. ((QUICK NAT SOUND OF INSPECTION))
The inspection involves checking the outside of the truck, underneath, and the driver's paperwork.

Virginia recently launched the prepass system which allows the trucks to be weighed on the interstate while in motion.

As part of a plea agreement Angela Hampton was sentenced to three years in prison which were suspended on the condition she pay back the more than 16- thousand dollars she stole. Hampton says Richardson gave her full access to all his bank accounts.

John Rigas (Reegas) and two of this sons were all convicted of securities fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy.
John Rigas is the founder of Adelphia, one of the nations largest cable companies.
Prosecutors say John Rigas used company money to pay for a 13 million dollar golf course, to buy timberland next to a family home and even to retain a personal masseuse.
Rigas and his sons each faces 30 years in prison.

A Greenpeace team in found a nuclear facility that was substantially looted. Four to five kilos of radioactive uranium was recovered from a mixing canister, and the team also found radioactivity registering thousands of times above the normal level at two industrial sites in the city. Stories have been surfacing from the area about individuals coming into contact with material from the nuclear facility and becoming sick. There are worries that materials looted from the site may be in the hands of terrorists.

((Marcus Vick has a cannon of an arm, lethal speed and blood lines that put him on track for the NFL. But a January incident in which Vick, Tech running back Mike Imoh and receiver Brenden Hill gave alcohol to minors at a private party have temporarily sacked his career. All three were suspended for the first three games of the 2004 season. Then came Vick's traffic stop, and he's now off the team till further notice. UVa's Hagans and teammates Brandon Lee and Kenneth Tynes are off the hook. But that's not the first incident involving a Virginia player in the last two years. Over the last two seasons UVa men's basketball coach Pete Gillen suspended guards Keith Jennifer and Jermaine Harper for discipline problems. Both have left the program. Tigers' defensive lineman Chris McDuffie, a former star at both G.W. Danville and Hargrave Military was arrested on drug charges and he has been suspended from the team. McDuffie faces two charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Both charges are felonies, according to the university.

It wasn't a bird and it wasn't a plane- it was a meteor shower that lit up the sky over parts of Oklahoma and Texas.

Check it out. The National Weather Service received numerous reports of a fireball in the sky around 9:30.
Federal Emergency Management folks got together with the weather service. They determined that residents probably saw meteors burning up in the atmosphere. (------------)
