Alleghany County deputies say at least two people are now in custody, charged with the vandalism of Alleghany High School and two other locations.

Sometime last Thursday night or Friday morning, vandals trashed the school-- destroying t-v's, computers, vending machines and trophy cases.
The damage there is estimated at 25-thousand dollars.
Vandals also hit the Jackson River Technical Center and the Alleghany Country Club Golf Course.
Tonight deputies arrested 18 year old Ian M. Brown of Selma as well as an unidentified 17 year old.
The sheriff's office says more charges are pending. We'll have more information later in the newscast.

After nearly two hours of debate and several motions that even seem to confuse many Supervisors, the board voted unanimously to give all the money to the school system.

Meanwhile, Franklin County's school board has amended its annual budget, as a result of additional funding from the state. The board approved the 60-point-eight million dollar budget during its meeting today. The board also elected a new chairman, P-D Hambrick and a new vice-chairman, Carl Dudley.

Montgomery County supervisors slashed a controversial tax tonight.
The board voted to cut the merchant's tax by about a third and eliminate a second inventory scheduled for August.


Several business owners complained that the tax on their inventory was too high.

The American Heart Association released new recommendations today for LDL's or the so called bad cholesterol.
People at moderate risk for heart attack- the middle aged, overweight and high blood pressure should lower their bad cholesterol from 130 to 100.
Those at high risk... smokers, men with high blood pressure and everyone with diabetes are advised to drop their LDL from 100 to a new low of 70.

The news came moments after the Philippine government said it would withdraw its 50-member peace-keeping force from Iraq. The abductors had vowed to behead 46 year old Angelo dela Cruz today at 3pm if the Philippines did not withdraw from Iraq. The news apparently came just in time, as it was reported by Al-Jazeera that dela Cruz had already been taken to the place where he was to be killed.

Hundreds of Shi'ite Muslims clamoured for Saddam Hussein's execution today in the latest show of strength by a community repressed for decades by the former dictator. Thousands of Shi'ites were executed under his regime. This was not the first public demonstration by the Shi'ite Muslims in Iraq to demand death for Saddam. A similar protest was held yesterday in Amara, where hundreds marched the streets.

Actress Isabel Sanford portrayed Louise Jefferson on the long running sitcom the Jeffersons.
In 1981 Sanford became the first African American woman to receive a best actress Emmy.
It was this past January that Sanford received her star on Hollywoods walk of fame.
A spokesperson says Sandord died of natural causes.
Isabel Sanford was 86 years old.

A daring rescue at Niagara Falls- after a distraught woman is spotted on the ledge of the falls.

Rescuers- harnessed with ropes- climbed a two foot wide ledge at the Horseshoe falls to reach the woman.
They said the woman was at times crying and threatening to jump.

Barry Bonds was the first at the plate and while he did not disappoint with 8 homers in the first round - the favorite to win it all was knocked out in round two. That was more than could be said for former champ Sammy Sosa. Sammy never really got into one of his patented grooves and he didn't get out of round one. Neither did the current homerun leader this season - the Phils' Jim Thome - also exited in round one. Hometown favorite Lance Berkman got hot and made it all the way to the finals. But no one could handle the smooth stroking Miguel Tejada of the Orioles. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Salem's Ryan Kochen knocked this RBI double past the shortstop, sending left fielder Adam Seuss across the plate. The Avs didn't waste any time getting on the board again as the next batter John Fagan hits this sacrifice fly to left field, allowing first baseman Mark Saccomano to make it home. That made the score 2-to-nothing. The Avalanche got two more runs in the seventh. This one came from catcher Reinaldo Ruiz, who sends this RBI single past the second baseman, and shortstop Wade Robinson sneaks home to make it 4-to-1.

Forget it. Tonight DEI and NAPA announced the Waltrip will be back as the driver of the NAPA Chevy in 2005. That will mark the fifth straight year that the two-time Daytona 500 champ has raced with the NAPA colors. Waltrip won the Daytona 500 for NAPA in both 2001 and 2003.

Marcus Vick's court date in New Kent on the reckless driving and marijuana possession charges he picked over the fourth of July weekend has been set for Tuesday, September 21st. Vick will be represented at the trial by Tidewater attorney Larry Woodward.

The Virginia Beach based lawyer was a natural selection because he was recently hired to represent Michael Vick with the Falcon stars's endorsement deals. Woodward also is Allen Iverson's long-time attorney having represented him in not only his brushes with the law, but in his endorsement and contract negotiations.

The Virginia State Golf Association staged a zone qualifier for golfers on out end of the state today at Hidden Valley Country Club. Those in attendance we trying to secure a spot in the upcoming State Junior Open.
