A fire in Franklin County appears to have been started by an explosion.
Officials say a house on Pine Haven Lane, on the lower side of Smith Mountain Lake, was unoccupied at the time and is a total loss.
The owner lives in Florida.
The call came in shortly after 3 o-clock this morning. It took fire crews from Glade Hill, Scruggs, and Smith Mountain lake two hours to put the blaze out, but are still on the scene cleaning up.
The fire is under investigation. Evidence crews will be on the scene with the state police later today.
