A woman in California is suing McDonald's in a federal court in San Francisco, claiming that the fast-food chain hasn't reduced the trans-fatty acids in the cooking oils it uses for french fries and other foods. Last year, the company said its plan to change all the cooking oils, particularly for fries, was taking longer than expected, because customers were complaining about the taste.
Abbott Laboratories finished lower on Friday, despite reporting a sharp increase in its earnings. The drugmaker enjoyed strong sales numbers, in its nutritional and diabetes care divisions, as well as its Humira arthritis drug.

A fire in Franklin County appears to have been started by an explosion.
Officials say a house on Pine Haven Lane, on the lower side of Smith Mountain Lake, was unoccupied at the time and is a total loss.
The owner lives in Florida.
The call came in shortly after 3 o-clock this morning. It took fire crews from Glade Hill, Scruggs, and Smith Mountain lake two hours to put the blaze out, but are still on the scene cleaning up.
The fire is still under investigation. Evidence crews will be on the scene with the state police later today.
