Some stores in the southwest part of the state are restricting sales of over the counter allergy and cold medications.
It's an effort to combat meth- amphetamine abuse.
The medicines are a key component of the highly addictive amphetamine.
Tazewell commonwealth's attorney Dennis Lee says people who need cold and allergy medicine will not have a problem getting it.
However authorities are keeping in close contact with pharmacies to find out if anyone is buying large quantities of the drugs.
Lee says truck drivers and motorcycle gangs are known to distribute methamphetamine in the region.
