V-DOT crews will install a drainage pipe beneath Hunting Hills Drive beginning at 8 a.m. The work will be performed near the intersection of Hunting Hills Drive and Crossbow Circle. Drivers should expect delays today and tomorrow until 6 p-m.

Police in Alleghany County say two teenagers are in custody -- charged with vandalizing Alleghany High School and two other places.

Sometime last Thursday night or Friday morning, vandals trashed the school-- destroying t-v's, computers, vending machines and trophy cases.
The damage there is estimated at 25-thousand dollars.

The man in charge of capturing Saddam Hussein is back from Iraq. Colonel James Hickey says he's proud of what his troops accomplished, and is overwhelmed by the response upon his return.

A 1982 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Hickey spoke to high school students attending the Junior War College in Lexington.
Hickey was in command of the 1st Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, when his soldiers captured Saddam Hussein.
But it was his return to the states a few months later that he found surprising.

Lynchburg's newest tourist attraction got a little closer to completion yesterday.

The Langley Fountain is named for developer Bruton Langley who donated 100-thousand dollars toward its construction.
It's built on top of an old railroad trestle at the bottom of the Ninth Street corridor.
The fountain pumps a stream of water into the air that can be visible from almost anywhere downtown.
The city is testing controls which will limit the height during windier days.
It should be fully operational by August.

Hundreds of people in Pulaski county will have to deal with failing septic systems, at least until next summer.

More than two million dollars in federal funds are on the way to pay for a new sewer line in the Highland Park subdivision near Dublin. 230 homes and more than 500 people will get the new service. Officials say the line is needed to help replace dozens of failing private septic systems Construction will begin next summer. The service should be up and running by the spring of 2006

A debate raged on last night over what to do with money allocated for Bedford County schools.

Many feared the Supervisors would NOT use all the money for education and last night they turned out in large numbers to voice their frustration.

But many Supervisors say they always intended for the money to go towards the school system.
They point out state law required the county to hold a public hearing and one supervisor went as far as to blame the school board for the confusion.
After nearly two hours of debate, the board voted unanimously to give all the money to the school system.

The superintendent says the money will be used to start an art program in the elementary schools, as well as alternative education system-wide.
They will also hire additional teachers in the elementary and high school levels.

Meanwhile, Franklin County's school board has amended its annual budget, as a result of additional funding from the state. The board approved the 60-point-eight million dollar budget during its meeting today. The board also elected a new chairman, P-D Hambrick and a new vice-chairman, Carl Dudley.

The Montgomery County board of Supervisors voted to cut the merchant's tax by about a third and eliminate a summer inventory.

Several business owners complained the tax on inventory was too high, and some car dealers moved their cars out of the county to avoid paying.
One supervisor said he'll be watching to see if those businesses continue to move their inventory now that the tax rate has been lowered.

Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick goes to court today to appeal his conviction on misdemeanors in connection with a party with underage girls.

The 20-year-old Vick was convicted in May of three charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after he and two teammates gave alcohol to girls at the players' apartment. Vick was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined 22-hundred-50 dollars. Vick has been suspended indefinately from the team after another run in with the law earlier this month. State police charged him with reckless driving and possession of marijuana during an early morning traffic stop on Int(------------) erstate 64 near Richmond.
